Who we Are
Ashford Umbrella was founded as a charity in 1991 in Ashford as a result of a decision by the Government of the day that post-hospital care should be carried out in the home.
Umbrella was created to help these patients to adjust to life in the community especially those with mental health problems. Today Umbrella’s role encompasses everyone providing support free from all forms of discrimination.
We endeavour to give all visitors to both Ashford and Tenterden a warm and friendly welcome. There is a weekly walking group at Tenterden led by a member of staff and a volunteer. Other activities available at both venues that include Pool, snooker, Table tennis, and board games.
We are unable to provide these activities at Tenterden for the time being due to the passing of our Coordinator, but intend to once again have a presence in Tenterden in the near future.
Tenterden Umbrella: In 2001 we were contracted to provide a one day service at The Tenterden Leisure Centre run on similar lines to Ashford Umbrella sessions, hence the two became one “Ashford and Tenterden Umbrella.”
Members are encouraged to become involved in the running of Umbrella, and are represented on the board of trustees.
Our aims are to provide…
- a safe environment conducive to recovery.
- support and signposting.
- an open door service to all adult members.
- support people to be independent.
- facilitate people back into the community.
- promote the “Six ways to Wellbeing”
- promote social inclusion.
